Fire Safety in Schools – A Practical Guide for School Leaders

Every school must have a suitable and sufficient fire risk assessment carried out by a competent person. Fire Door Inspections

Emergency lighting should be tested monthly with a full duration test carried out annually by a competent engineer. Escape routes should always remain adequately illuminated during an emergency.

Fire Drills

Fire drills should normally be carried out at least once each term and whenever significant changes are made to evacuation arrangements. Schools should record evacuation times, identify lessons learned and ensure any issues are addressed promptly.
